Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification

Initial

Please Note:  This information applies to individuals seeking Initial Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification who are not currently certified as an EMT in the State of California through any local EMS agency (LEMSA).  EMT certification is valid statewide in California, and you may apply through any County or Local EMS Agency (LEMSA).  However, it is strongly recommended that you apply for certification in the county where you are employed or intend to work. This ensures you receive important updates regarding local policies, protocols, and any changes that may impact your responsibilities.  All EMTs are required to be familiar with and follow the policies and protocols of the county in which they provide service.

Application processing may take up to ten (10) business days. Our business days are M-F 8 am-5 pm.  We are currently experiencing delays with DOJ & FBI results.  We cannot process any applications until fingerprinting results are received.

Renewing

Effective July 1, 2019, recertifying EMTs must include CE Certificate or EMT Refresher Course that states training on “epi, naloxone and glucometer” on the certificates.
