What to report
Under Title 17, California Code of Regulations §2508, schools and childcare providers are required to report:
- Individual cases of Title 17 diseases, such as measles or pertussis;
- Unusual disease occurrences; and
- Outbreaks that meet defined criteria.

Reporting Requirements for Gastrointestinal Illnesses and Respiratory Illnesses for Yolo County Public Health

DISEASE

OUTBREAK REPORTING THRESHOLD
|
|
Gastrointestinal (GI) illnesses
|
- Three (3) or more cases of vomiting or diarrhea2 in students or staff members from separate households;
and
- Symptom onset occurring within 72 hours and within the same group, such as a single classroom, sports team, or after-school group
|
|
Respiratory illnesses (including COVID-19, influenza, RSV)
|
- 10 percent or more of the total population of students and staff, facility-wide, are absent with acute respiratory illness1within a 3-day period (10 percent of average daily attendance are absent)
OR,
- 20 percent or more of students and staff in an epidemiologically-linked group (such as a single classroom, sports team, or after-school group) with acute respiratory illness1 (20 percent of average daily attendance), with a minimum of five (5) ill, within a three-day period

1 Acute respiratory illness is defined as new onset of two or more of the following symptoms: fever or chills, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, difficulty breathing, and body aches
2 Diarrhea is 3 or more instances of loose stools in a 24-hour period
