Yolo County staff investigate reports of contagious diseases and take steps to control outbreaks in the community. They make sure affected people and their close contacts get medical treatment. They also create programs to prevent future outbreaks, educate the public and professionals, and work with state and local groups to stop the spread of disease.
When Public Health gets a report of a disease, they investigate to:
- Confirm the diagnosis and find where the disease started.
- Check the disease details.
- Identify affected people.
- Give affected people information about the disease.
- Look for how the disease might be spreading between people.
- Share details with affected people and the public about symptoms, testing, how it spreads, and how to prevent it.
Sometimes, staff work with other agencies to stop an outbreak. For example, if a restaurant or daycare is involved, Communicable Disease staff will team up with Environmental Health.
