This September, Yolo County Library invites residents to celebrate Library Card Sign-up Month and discover the resources and services available with a library card.

With a library card, you can do more than check out books. From free classes and job resources to homework help, digital materials, and cultural events, today’s libraries connect communities to information, inspiration, and one another.

An initiative of the American Library Association, Library Card Sign-up Month has been held each September since 1987 to mark the beginning of the school year, support literacy and learning, and encourage communities to explore the many resources available through their libraries. Thousands of public libraries and schools nationwide take part each year.

This year’s theme, “A Library Card Hits All the Right Notes,” highlights the wide range of resources libraries offer for people of all ages and interests. Whether you are looking for a favorite book, a quiet place to study, a new skill to learn, or a community program to attend, Yolo County Library has something to explore.

Yolo County Library offers:

• Books, movies, music, eBooks, internet computers, and quiet areas to work and study.
• Board games, Nature Explorer backpacks, and California State Library Parks Passes.
• STEM2Go kits with books and hands-on materials for exploring science, technology, engineering, and math.
• Discovery Kits covering a range of hobbies and activities, including meditation, cake decorating, and ukuleles.
• Programs and events for all ages, from storytimes and book clubs to job search support and technology help.

Getting a library card is free and easy. Library cards give students access to learning resources and give residents of all ages access to books, digital materials, programs, technology, and other library services.

Throughout September, library patrons can also contribute to Community Playlists by sharing their favorite songs at each Yolo County Library branch.
