Yolo County will host a community walking audit Saturday, Aug. 22, to gather public input on potential traffic safety improvements near the intersection of Yolo and Woodland avenues along State Route 16.

The intersection has been identified as an area of concern due to crashes involving people walking. Esparto residents and other community members are invited to join transportation professionals and local officials to observe current conditions and discuss possible measures to enhance safety.

The event will begin at 9 a.m. in the community room at Mercy Housing’s Esperanza Crossing, 16797 County Road 87 in Esparto. Participants will receive a brief overview and complete a short survey before taking part in a guided walk. The event will wrap up with a discussion about what was observed and potential ideas to support safety improvements.

Representatives from the Yolo County Department of Public Works, Yolo Transportation District, California Department of Transportation, California Highway Patrol, Esparto Fire Protection District, Esparto Unified School District and Yolo County Board of Supervisors are expected to participate.

No registration is required. Surveys and event information will be available in English and Spanish. Free parking is available at Esperanza Crossing and on nearby streets.

The walking audit is part of the Yolo County Traffic Safety Program. Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
