In recognition of National Bike Month in May, the Yolo County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) Bike and Pedestrian Safety Program will host a League of American Bicyclists League Certified Instructor (LCI) bike training class from Friday, May 15 through Sunday, May 17, at 137 N. Cottonwood Street in Woodland.
This intensive three-day, hands-on bicycle training course will include classroom instruction, skills testing, and both daytime and nighttime road rides. The course prepares candidates to become certified bicycle instructors who can support bicycle education efforts throughout the region and their communities. These classes and efforts:
- Empower the next generation of bike riders.
- Develop League Cycling Instructors (LCIs) who serve as ambassadors for safer and more accessible bicycling through education and outreach efforts.
- Allow LCIs to teach a variety of Smart Cycling classes for both children and adults, helping riders feel more confident and secure on the road. From youth-focused classes to the Bicycle Friendly Driver curriculum, LCIs educate both bicyclists and drivers on how to safely and legally share the road.
The class builds upon the prerequisite SMART Cycling class offered by HHSA in April and will be taught by a team of outside instructors and evaluators. Participants include bicycle enthusiasts from Ohio, Washington, Oregon, and Los Angeles, as well as many partners from Yolo County and surrounding communities.
