PRESS RELEASE

What brings you joy? Whether it’s getting lost in a good book, learning a new skill or connecting with your community, you can find it at the Yolo County Library.

National Library Week, April 19–25, is a time to celebrate the many ways libraries bring people together, spark imagination, and support lifelong learning. From books and digital resources to job assistance and creative programming, libraries play a vital role in building strong, connected communities.

The Yolo County Library invites residents to join the celebration. Whether you're a long-time patron, a new neighbor, or haven’t visited in a while, now is the perfect time to explore everything the library has to offer. Services include free Wi-Fi, eBooks and audiobooks, career workshops, a makerspace, STEAM programs, storytimes, and an extensive collection of materials ensuring access to resources that inform, entertain, and inspire.

No matter your stage of life, the library has something for everyone. Whether you’re preparing for a career change, launching a business, raising a family, or embracing retirement, Yolo County Library is here to support your journey. Libraries serve as hubs for learning, creativity, and connection, helping people of all ages discover new opportunities.

As part of the celebration, community members are invited to participate in a special National Library Week contest. Pick up an “I Love My Library” coloring sheet from your local branch and return it for a chance to win library-themed prizes. All ages are welcome to participate, and entries will be accepted through Saturday, April 25.

“Libraries are cornerstones of our communities, providing welcoming spaces for learning, connection, and opportunity for all,” states Diana Lopez, Yolo County Librarian. “We foster curiosity and lifelong learning while preserving our local history through our Archives and Records as well as the Yolo County Historical Collection. During National Library Week, we celebrate these vital spaces and the dedicated staff who make them possible. We invite everyone to visit a branch or stop by our Bookmobile to connect with us.”

First celebrated in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association and libraries of all types across the country each April.
