PRESS RELEASE

Residents seeking an exemption from the Davis special library parcel tax must submit their application by June 1, 2026. Exemptions from the special tax are available for the following property types:

1. Agricultural property that is zoned and used for agriculture and does not contain a residence.
2. Non-buildable property that cannot be developed due to a reasonably permanent limitation. This includes irregular or historically separate parcels that have not been merged with adjacent properties and cannot reasonably serve as an independent building site.
3. Low-income owner-occupied property. “Persons of low income” are defined as property owner/occupants whose total household income is less than 200% of the annual Poverty Guideline for a family of four, as published by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for the year in which the proof is submitted. For 2025 that amount is $64,300.

A separate exemption must be completed for each parcel for which an exemption is requested. The special library parcel tax supports expanded facilities and services at the Mary L. Stephens Davis Branch Library and provides funding for library services at the new Walnut Park Library in South Davis. For fiscal year 2026-27, the library special tax is $175.66 for a single-family residence and $87.83 per unit for a multi-family residence.
