Holiday Closures and Service Delays at Yolo County Waste Facilities

Post Date:12/22/2025 9:00 AM

PRESS RELEASE

The Esparto Transfer Station (ECC) will be closed on Wednesday, December 24 and Wednesday, December 31. The Yolo County Central Landfill (YCCL) will remain open on those days to accept waste from all county residents. In observance of the holidays, YCCL will be closed on Thursday, December 25 and Thursday, January 1. ECC will be open for normal business hours on Saturday, December 27 and Saturday, January 3.

Due to the one-day closure of the YCCL on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, Waste Management (WM) and Recology curbside collection services will also be delayed by one day. Customers normally serviced on Thursdays will receive service on Friday, December 26, and customers normally serviced on Fridays will be picked up on Saturday, December 27. For questions about residential or commercial collection schedules, please contact WM at (530) 662-8748 or Recology at (530) 756-4646.

From December 26 through January 15, Yolo County residents may recycle up to two holiday trees at no charge at YCCL located at 44090 County Road 28H in Woodland, and at the Esparto Convenience Center located at 27075 County Road 19A in Esparto. If you miss the free drop off window at YCCL, you can always cut up your tree and place in your organics cart any time of year.

Tree-cycling turns holiday trees into a valuable renewable resource. Trees are biodegradable and will be processed at the County’s state of the art composting facility to create organic material. Trees containing ornaments, flocking, tinsel, garland, or lights will incur a fee and be sent for disposal.

Residents are encouraged to help loved ones start the New Year safely by assisting with the proper disposal of household hazardous waste. Items such as batteries, bulbs, paints, and cleaners can be dropped off at the weekly Household Hazardous Waste facility, held every Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at YCCL. This program is offered at no charge to Yolo County residents. Improperly stored hazardous chemicals or old medications can pose serious safety and environmental risks, particularly for older adults. Residents assisting someone who is 65 years of age or older are encouraged to take advantage of the free at-home hazardous waste pickup program by calling (530) 666-8856 to schedule a collection.

Consider donating gently used items including electronic waste, toys, housewares, and clothing at the Blue Barn Thrift Store located at YCCL. Proceeds support Yolo County’s waste reduction and outreach efforts.

Yolo County thanks residents for properly sorting their waste and for starting the New Year sustainably. For more information about waste reduction programs offered by the Department of Community Services, Division of Integrated Waste Management, call (530) 666-8856 or visit: www.YoloCounty.gov/landfill.
