PRESS RELEASE
On Sunday, October 19, nearly 3,000 triathletes will compete in the 2025 IRONMAN California. The bicycle portion will pass through a portion of the Clarksburg area of Yolo County, beginning in West Sacramento and continuing south along South River Road, Babel Slough Road, and then to State Route 84 (Jefferson Boulevard) into Solano County. Riders will complete the circuit twice before transitioning to the marathon run portion of the competition.
“We are excited to once again welcome IRONMAN athletes and visitors to Yolo County,” stated Oscar Villegas, Yolo County District 1 Supervisor. “Events like this bring positive attention and economic activity to our local communities. We appreciate residents’ patience with the temporary road closures and encourage everyone to plan ahead for travel on race day.”
Expect road closures, delays, and detours along the bike course from about 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Roads will be closed to through traffic. Access to the course roads will be restricted to residents and businesses. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) will be handling traffic control at several intersections on race day.
Athletes will be present on:
- South River Road, in both directions between Gregory Ave and Babel Slough Road
- Babel Slough Road, in both directions between South River Road and State Route 84
- State Route 84, in both directions between Babel Slough Road and Miner Slough Bridge
- Ryer Avenue from Miner Slough Bridge to approximately two miles east of the bridge
Notes for getting around on race day:
- Avoid the racecourse as much as possible and use alternate roads to avoid delays and closures.
- Access to West Sacramento via State Route 84 will be extremely limited during the race. Use Freeport Bridge to the Interstate 5 corridor to head north to West Sacramento.
- Miner Slough Bridge will be accessible for emergency use only during the race. Motorists should use Caltrans Ferry in Walnut Grove during the race period.
- If there is a Caltrans Ferry service disruption in Walnut Grove during the race period, a safety plan is in place for residents to cross Miner Slough Bridge instead.
