PRESS RELEASE
LOCAL EMERGENCY PROCLAMATION
Today, the Yolo County Board of Supervisors unanimously adopted a declaration a local emergency in response to the Oakdale Fire that burned in Esparto on July 1.
The fire and subsequent explosions originated at a commercial fireworks storage facility and caused extensive damage to nearby property and infrastructure. Tragically, seven lives were lost in this incident. Numerous agencies are now engaged in recovery, investigation, and site remediation operations.
Adoption of this declaration enables Yolo County to quickly access state and federal resources and logistical support. It also makes the county eligible for potential reimbursement of costs for emergency services and long-term recovery.
This declaration does not change existing jurisdictional responsibilities. Yolo County Office of Emergency Services (OES) will continue in its supporting role within the unified command, working with CAL FIRE, Esparto Fire Protection District, the Sheriff/Coroner Office, and state and federal partners.
Yolo County will provide regular updates and continue working closely with residents throughout the recovery.
