Welcome to the Yolo County Climate Action & Sustainability Newsletter! We are excited to share updates from our climate action and adaptation planning (CAAP) process, countywide sustainability efforts, upcoming events, and sustainability resources as we work to meet our goal of achieving a carbon negative footprint by 2030.

Yolo County is recruiting Community Based Organizations to serve as Paid Outreach Partners!
🌱 The deadline to apply to serve as a PAID Outreach Partner for the 2030 CAAP has been extended! The YCCAC Equity & Engagement Technical Advisory Committee (E&E TAC) is looking for PAID Outreach Partners to engage with Yolo County community members and provide input on outreach strategies. To apply, send an email to sustainability@yolocounty.org by Friday, June 30th with the following the following:
- A brief description of how you/your organization will support the goals of Equity and Engagement in development of the CAAP.
- An overview of your organization’s experience working with communities in unincorporated Yolo County, specifically low-income communities, Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities, the elderly, people with disabilities, and youth.
- Please cite your experience coordinating and hosting community events.
🌱 Yolo County Sustainability held our first in-person CAAP workshop on June 20th at the Woodland Community and Senior Center! This workshop was the first in a series of Community Workshops for the 2030 Climate Action and Adaptation Plan. Virtual workshops were held on June 21st from 12:00 PM – 1:30 PM and June 22nd from 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM. We will be sharing outcomes and reports from these engaging community workshop sessions ahead of our July YCCAC meeting. Thank you to everyone who came out and provided your input! Shoutout to Bangkok Cuisine for catering our event!
🌱 The Yolo County CAAP Portal is now live! Visit YoloCAAP.org to receive updates on the County’s Climate Action and Adaptation Plan progress, interact with our planning process and provide your input, and track our upcoming events!
The Yolo County Climate Action Commission (YCCAC) has been cancelled for June. We will see you July 24, 2023!
The June YCCAC Meeting has been cancelled for the month of June. Please join us for our next YCCAC meeting on July 24th, from 4:00 PM – 6:30 PM at the Yolo County Board Chambers.

🌱 Yolo County Library’s Summer Reading Program is back! Summer Reading is held annually from June 1st – August 15th for all ages. Read what makes you happy and track everything you read to earn prizes! Looking for book recommendations for your kids? You can start with this list of 10 children’s books on Climate Change!
🌱 The Final Guidelines and Application for Round 1 of the Regional Resilience Grant Program (RRPG) are now available! Review the guidelines to learn more about applying and participating in the RRPG. Applications are due August 29th by 5 PM PST.
🌱 Have you used Coursera, Learning Express Library, LinkedIn Learning, Northstar, or VetNow? Complete this 3-minute survey to let the California State Library and Pacific Library Partnership know what you think about the online learning resources offered through your public library.

Help extend the lifetime of your items and prevent them from ending up in landfills by attending the West Sacramento Repair Café! A Repair Café is a free pop-up event where community experts offer their skills and services to repair items that would otherwise be tossed away. Repair services include electrical appliances, clothing repair, wood and furniture repair, bike mechanics and general repair.

June 29th Building Initiative for Low-Emissions Development (BUILD) Webinar | 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM | Join via Zoom
The BUILD Program is hosting a webinar on June 29th, 2023 to introduce and provide an overview of the new BUILD incentive application system. Join to learn how to set up an account, review, modify and track the status of existing projects, and review existing applications.
July 4th Woodland Fourth of July Celebration
Attend one of the many events scheduled throughout July 4th in Woodland, including a Pancake Breakfast at Fire Station #3, the Bike Parade and Family Fun Fest, an Ice Cream Social, and a Fireworks Celebration! Festivities begin at 8 AM and the last fireworks show begins around 9:15 PM.

Get up close and personal with a diverse range of native species on this incredible journey of discovery! August 25th Woodland Community Services Dive In Movie | 7:00 PM | Charles Brooks Community Swim Center, 155 N West St, Woodland, CA
Enjoy watching Disney’s classic flick Lilo & Stitch under the starts from the comfort of a pool float. The pool opens for swimming at 7:00 PM and the movie will start shortly after sundown. This is a free event for all ages!

🌱 National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center. Click the link for a three-month temperature and precipitation outlook that shows the total probability of extreme temperatures and precipitation levels.
🌱 Recycling, Sustainability & Waste Management Jobs. This job board highlights a wide range of recycling, sustainability, circular economy and waste management jobs. New positions are added regularly.
🌱 The California Air Resources Board (CARB) is the leading organization responsible for implementing and creating climate change regulations in California. The passage of SB 905 requires CARB to establish a brand new Carbon Capture and Storage Program (CCS), leading to CARB offering positions to take a leading role in helping to define what CCS programs will look like. The deadline to apply for these 2 positions is 6/27/2023. Positions available include:
- Position 1 – Need an engineering degree to be considered. You must also take the ARE self-assessment to be eligible for the position.
- Position 2 – Do not need an engineering degree to be considered. You must also take the APS self-assessment to be eligible for the position.

CLIMATE NEWS
🌱 Public Lands Rule. This Rule proposed by the Bureau of Land Management would restructure the beneficial uses of BLM lands to include “conservation” as one of the categories as a strategy for climate adaptation and mitigation.
🌱 California awards $8 million to help communities strengthen resilience against growing climate impacts. The Governor’s Office of Planning and Research announced $8 million in project awards through Round 1 of the Adaptation Planning Grant.
🌱 ‘Climate whiplash’ is the new normal for California, experts say. A series of resilience projects in California aim to reduce and mitigate climate hazards as the state has recently swung from years of drought to piles of snow.
🌱 Water Use in California’s Agriculture. This fact sheet offers insights into the usage of farm water in California, including details on crop variety, revenue generation, irrigated land area, and overall water demand.
🌱 'Nastier' heat waves possible for Northern California this summer. Here's the latest outlook. The Sacramento Bee discusses the unpredictability of recent weather patterns and forecasts a heatwave this summer that is expected to be comparable to last year’s.
