(Woodland, CA) – Yolo County has issued a local emergency proclamation on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, due to the exceptional rainfall and wind conditions throughout Yolo County. Gavin Newsom, the governor of California, declared a State of Emergency on January 4, 2023, which includes Yolo County. The issuance of a local emergency proclamation will allow Yolo County to set rules, regulations, and other mandates as deemed necessary to assist during this emergency to protect the safety of persons and property within Yolo County.
The winter storm will bring strong winds and heavy rainfall along the coast and will impact interior Northern California from Wednesday, January 4, 2023, through Thursday, January 5, 2023. Expect widespread gusts from 45 to 60mph and, in some areas, higher. Strongest winds are expected in the afternoon of Wednesday, January 4, 2023, through early morning on Thursday, January 5, 2023. Downed trees, widespread power outages, and difficult driving conditions are expected.
“The severity of the winter storm in Yolo County highlights the need to take precautions to ensure the safety and well-being of Yolo County residents,” said Chair of the Yolo County Board of Supervisors Oscar Villegas. “As a community, we ask that residents listen to local officials, stay informed about current weather conditions by signing up for Yolo Alert, and know that we are working hard to make sure everyone stays safe throughout the storm.”
Residents should prepare for the storm and stay safe by:
- Never touching downed wires
- Charge cell phones and laptops
- Alternate plans for medicines or medical devices
- Have fresh drinking water and ice
- Use generators safety
- Use flashlights, not candles
- Stay off the roads
“The health and safety of our residents are of paramount importance. As we continue to experience large-scale storms, the Yolo County workforce is committed to protecting life and property while simultaneously remaining fully engaged in the continuity of operations across all county services. With the adoption of this Declaration of Local Emergency, Yolo County will be best positioned to respond to all emergencies in collaboration with our state, regional, tribal, and federal partners,” said County Administrator Gerardo Pinedo.
