Purpose
The purpose of the Yolo County Maternal Child Adolescent Health (MCAH) Advisory Board, established in 1992 by Yolo County Resolution 92-24, is to advise and make recommendations to the Board of Supervisors and leaders in Yolo County Public Health and MCAH. The MCAH Advisory Board reviews Yolo County data, health outcomes, programs, providers, and facilities to assess the extent to which they meet the needs of the county's pregnant and parenting people, infants, children, adolescents, and their families. Community members and service providers actively participate in developing the MCAH Advisory Board's evidence-informed recommendations. The MCAH Advisory Board takes a life-course approach and works to reduce disparities in health outcomes across racial/ethnic, geographic, and socioeconomic groups.
Vision and Mission
The vision of the Yolo County MCAH Advisory Board to ensure that all Yolo County pregnant and parenting people, infants, children, adolescents, and their families live with the support, resources, and environments they need to thrive.
The mission of the Yolo County MCAH Advisory Board is to provide evidence-based and community informed recommendations to the Yolo County Board of Supervisors and leaders in Yolo County Public Health to promote, enhance, and support health and support systems for Yolo County pregnant and parenting people, infants, children, adolescents, and their families.
Activities of the Board
- Annually in January, hold a retreat to strategically plan the meetings and activities for the coming year. Annual work plan will include calendar for meetings; priorities, goals and strategies for the year; timeline for presentation to the Board of Supervisors; potential workgroups for the year.
- Hold regularly scheduled meetings to develop evidence-informed recommendations based on existing data indicators, successes, challenges faced by providers, and input from community members.
- Inform and advise the Board of Supervisors (BOS) and the MCAH Director, Director of Public Health, and Director of the Yolo County Health & Human Services Agency (HHSA) on real anticipated impacts upon health status because of changes in federal, state and local legislation, policy, and funding.
- Provide input on the development of Yolo County Program plans related to the MCAH population and development of local priority areas.
- Research and provide input to the BOS on any issue relating to the health of the MCAH population, either at the request of the BOS or based on issues of concern to the MCAH Advisory Board.
- Advocate for solutions to identify MCAH special needs and priorities through promotion of public awareness, coordination of existing services, and encouragement of new resource development.
- Annually in October, provide an annual report to the BOS on the Advisory Board's recommendations to meet the needs of Yolo County pregnant and parenting people, infants, children, adolescents, and their families.
- Annually inventory the Advisory Board's progress to document achievements and identify high priority needs for the coming year.
- Annually conduct Advisory Board self-evaluation, which shall address issues of effective Advisory Board operation and governance and accomplishment of Advisory Board's requirements and annual goals.
- The board will, by majority, elect a Chair and Vice-Chair on a yearly basis.

13 regular voting members appointed by the Board of Supervisors.
Category A: Parents of children eligible for state health services.
Category B: Representatives from health professional.
Category C: School health representative
Category D: Member of existing local groups to Maternal Child and adolescent.
Category E: Individual interested in the health of mother and children.
